All metal parts finished bright except for the lock-plate and hammer the rear sight is sometimes blued, as are the barrels bands. While several of the markings seem to confirm the identity, there are a few that raise some questions. As such, it is sometimes classified as just a variant of the Model 1861. Dated 1863 and stamped on lock plate with the Federal Springfield Eagle and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD". The makings say 1863 on the back side of the hammer.but also stamped 1864 on side/ of hammer.
